Topped Up but Still No Gas?
If your gas meter ran out of credit, topping up may not restore the supply automatically.
In many cases, you need to restart the gas at the meter.
Before you begin, turn off all gas appliances.
This helps gas return safely.
Step 1: Check Your Credit
Go to your gas meter.
Make sure the top-up has gone through and credit shows on screen.
No credit showing?
- Wait a few minutes
- Try the top-up again
- Contact your supplier if needed
Step 2: Restart the Gas
Most meters need confirmation before gas starts again.
Press one of these buttons:
- A
- OK
- Red reset button
Then follow the instructions on screen.
Some meters ask you to hold the button for a few seconds.
Hear a Click?
That is usually a good sign.
It often means the gas valve has opened.
Step 3: Used Emergency Credit?
If you used emergency credit, the meter may:
- Repay some automatically
- Ask you to accept repayment
Simply follow the prompts.
Step 4: Check Gas Is Flowing
Before doing anything else, check that gas is back on.
You can:
- Look for ON on the meter
- Briefly test a gas hob, if you have one
If gas flows, turn the hob off again.
Your gas supply should now be back.
Still No Gas?
Check these first:
- Does the meter show credit?
- Did you follow all prompts?
- Does the meter still show OFF?
If gas still does not return, contact your supplier.

Open doors and windows immediately.
Then call emergency gas services.
Do NOT:
- Use light switches
- Use lighters or matches
- Do anything that could cause a spark
