Gas meters usually measure the amount of gas you use in cubic metres (m³). However, your energy supplier charges for gas in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
This calculator helps you convert gas usage from cubic metres into an estimated number of kilowatt-hours.
Gas m³ to kWh Calculator
The calculation used on UK gas bills is:
Gas used in m³ × volume correction factor × calorific value ÷ 3.6 = kWh
For a useful calculator, I would allow the visitor to enter:
- Gas used (m³)
- Calorific value (MJ/m³)
- Volume correction factor
- Unit rate (p/kWh)
The calculator can then show both the estimated kWh used and the cost of that gas.
