Smart Export Guarantee with Utility Warehouse

For generation at home.

From 1 January 2020, if you generate renewable energy, the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) allows you to apply to receive payments for the electricity you export back to the grid. You can benefit from SEG if you install a system that generates renewable energy using one of the following technologies:

Generate-at-home
  • Solar PV panels
  • A domestic wind turbine
  • Hydro
  • Anaerobic digestion
  • Micro-combined heat and power

You’re better off by bundling with Utility Warehouse as you’ll get the best value SEG tariff. The rate they pay for what you export depends on the number of services you have with them.

The current UW SEG payment tariff that’s available to everyone:

  • Supplier: The Utility Warehouse (Electricity Plus Supply Ltd)
  • Tariff name: UW Smart Export Guarantee – Standard
  • Tariff type: Standard Variable
  • Unit rate: 2 pence per kWh
  • Effective from: 01 May 2022


Customers who take Energy plus two or more additional services* will automatically receive their highest rate:

  • Supplier: The Utility Warehouse (Electricity Plus Supply Ltd)
  • Tariff name: UW Smart Export Guarantee – Bundle
  • Tariff type: Standard Variable
  • Unit rate: 5.6 pence per kWh
  • Effective from: 01 May 2022
  • Eligibility: Energy plus two or more additional services are required


If at any point you cancel an additional service or make changes to your account which means you are no longer eligible for the Utility Warehouse Bundle tariff rate, they will switch you on to the Standard tariff. Likewise, if you add a qualifying service they will switch you onto the Bundle tariff. 

For example, if you start with Energy plus one additional service and add another service, they will arrange to switch you to their ‘UW Smart Export Guarantee – Bundle’ tariff. If you then choose to cancel one of those services, they will reduce you to the lower ‘UW Smart Export Guarantee – Standard’ tariff.

*Additional services – Broadband, Mobile and Insurance. Bill protector and Cashback Card are excluded. Boiler & home cover is also excluded for tenants.
