Terminal capacity

In electrical and electronic systems, a terminal is a point in a device where a wire or cable can be connected. Terminal capacity refers to the maximum amount of current, voltage or power that a terminal block or connector can handle without damaging the device or the connected components.

For example, in a thermostat, the terminal capacity refers to the maximum current rating of the terminal block where the wires from the heating and cooling equipment are connected. If the current rating of the connected devices exceeds the terminal capacity of the thermostat, the thermostat could be damaged, or the connected devices may not operate as expected.

It is important to note that terminal capacity is not the same as the maximum capacity of the device. The maximum capacity of a device refers to the overall power, voltage or current that the device can handle, while the terminal capacity is specific to the terminals or connectors on the device.
