What is Warmer Homes Scotland?

Warmer Homes Scotland, managed by Warmworks Scotland and funded by the government, supports those facing financial struggles in enhancing their home energy efficiency.

Programme highlights

This initiative aims to transform energy usage, reduce bills, and offers grants for various home improvements, including insulation, draught-proofing, boilers, and heating systems.

Available improvements

Following a property survey, over forty potential measures, such as wall insulation, loft insulation, central heating, and renewable heating systems, may be recommended and funded.

How does it work for private tenants?

Private sector tenants need landlord approval for funded improvements. Since August 1, 2017, specific restrictions apply, with eligibility based on property status and adherence to The Repairing Standard.

Eligibility criteria

  • Homeownership or private-sector tenancy
  • Residency for at least six months
  • Poor energy rating
  • Home area up to 230m2
  • Council tax band A-F
  • Specific criteria for the elderly, medical certificate holders, or passport benefits recipients.

The criteria listed above may change from time to time and the criteria detailed on the day an application is assessed will be honoured.

Passport benefits

Passport benefits include Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Tax Credits, and more. Eligibility is subject to change, and criteria at the time of application assessment will be considered.
