Get £150 towards the cost of electricity!

If you are on a low income, including a low wage, then you may qualify for the Warm Home Discount, which is £150 towards the cost of electricity.

Warm Home Discount

You apply directly to your electricity supplier and will need your electricity account number. You usually have to satisfy two criteria with the first part being your core income and the second part being based on some form of vulnerability, such as ill health or children in the household.

Each energy company has a slightly different criteria and you can find out the criteria directly from the company.

Key points

  1. Guaranteed Pension Credit recipients automatically receive the electricity discount.
  2. Others may qualify via the BROADER group; please check your supplier’s website.
  3. You should apply to your electricity supplier.
  4. If you were not with current supplier by 13th August 2023, you might not get the Warm Home Discount, but it may still be worthwhile applying for it.
  5. The discount may be paid on to gas bill or meter if supplier provides both gas and electricity.
  6. The discount won’t impact Cold Weather or Winter Fuel Payments.
  7. You may apply for the Warm Home Discount in a different way if you live in a park home. Please see how to apply for the Park Homes Warm Home Discount.

Conclusion

The Warm Home Discount is £150 towards the cost of electricity for people who qualify by satisfying two criteria. It is paid automatically for people in receipt of the Guaranteed Element of Pension Credit. Anybody else can apply as part of the BROADER group. Each energy company has a slightly different criteria and there are links above to find out more from each company. If you were not with your current supplier on 13th August 2023, it is unlikely you will get the Warm Home Discount, but we would advise you to apply anyway just in case.
